PROMENADE FOR 25 SPECTATORS - BOOKING NECESSARY

A will-o’-the-wisp is a blue flame hovering at ground level that comes from the combustion of methane and phosphorus emanating from the decomposition of organic remains. An impalpable luminescence that appears like the last remnant of life projected from beyond death.

Judith Butler asks: “What makes you worthy of being mourned?” From this question, Circolo Bergman has begun research on the perception of one’s own future death. Can one assume, as Martin Heidegger suggests, that death is “our ownmost potentiality", an indicator of finiteness that illuminates the present and makes life more intense? And how can one celebrate a departure with a gesture that summarises the extent of the journey?

Listening, walking and watching are the fundamental gestures that run through the show. Using earphones, a voice guides groups of spectators through different spaces, in a tangle of stories and concepts closely connected to the landscape, up to a black room in which the various paths come together in a possible order. Immersed in nature, following multiple points of view, perhaps there is only one question: what secular ritual would we like invented “especially” for us?
