Famoudou Don Moye, drummer/percussionist with the Art Ensemble of Chicago for over 50 years presents a tribute to the African-American percussion tradition and its origins and influences in the African diaspora. The musical repertoire includes compositions by Famoudou Don Moye, Lester Bowie, Joseph Jarman, Chico Freeman, Roscoe Mitchell, Christophe Leloil and others.

The trio in which he performs is made up of talented musicians who have a knowledge of the traditions of jazz, blues, funk, and improvisation, both solo and collective.

Biography
Since 1969 Famoudou Don Moye has been the drummer and percussionist of the Art Ensemble of Chicago with which he has recorded more than 70 CDs amongst the 180 of his own discography. Born in Rochester, New York in 1946 into a music-loving family, he studied music and philosophy at the Wayne State University in Detroit where he met trumpeter, Charles Moore, who became his mentor.

Famoudou Don Moye has performed with numerous musicians on the American international music circuit including Archie Shepp, Don Cherry, Steve Lacy, Pharaoh Saunders, Sun Ra All Stars, Wadada Leo Smith, The Leaders, Don Pullen, Cecil Taylor and many others.

He continues to perform and record with The Art Ensemble of Chicago, which celebrated its 50^th anniversary in 2019. Known and recognised for his knowledge and continuous studies of world rhythms and Afro-Caribbean music, he continues his research of the traditional rhythms of Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Congo, Morocco, Cuba, and the African-American cultural traditions. He leads international workshops and masterclasses in drums, percussion and solo and collective multi-instrumental improvisation.
