The Associazione Culturale Dello Scompiglio is pleased to present Waiting for a landslide, a new permanent installation by Andrea Nacciarriti, realised at the end of the residency cycle The Secret Garden held between autumn 2023 and spring 2024.
Bronze stones replace as many rocks, from which moulds are cast, in a place in the garden where a small landslide makes a light mark on the landscape. A landslide is in itself the geological visualisation of a deeper instability, invisible to our eyes. The protagonist of the project is geological time, which inevitably changes the point of view, repositioning man and nature in a single enormous and absolute ecosystem. The prefix eco derives from oikos, which is a house or dwelling, therefore environment, which etymologically speaking, includes everything that surrounds us, even what we don't see or perceive. The ecosystem is therefore, following the Greek root of sunistemi (to collect, put together) the place that unites biological and non-biological elements. Substituting the phyllites, the rocks present in that landslide patch with their counterparts of bronze, the noble material of sculpture, presupposes the loss of the artistic process to the point of disappearance. Placing the sculpture in a place that is in itself unstable and potentially mobile exposes the form and the arrangement to precariousness. The copper and tin of which bronze is composed do not stop moving in their unstable and infinite geological flow. This allows us to reflect on how much our perception is limited to conceiving artifice, the fruit of technology and ingenuity, as a perennial presence, naively ignoring its inevitable impermanence, and thus the possibility of letting it flow, letting oneself flow, becoming lost in the process and caring for without interrupting it, just alongside it.
