SOME DANCES ON DICKFACES takes its cue from Hieronymus Bosch’s “The Garden of Earthly Delights”, to compose a hymn outside of time, a gamble, a quest and an encounter with the bodies of others, bearers of wealth and wonder in their uniqueness.
The study of the Flemish painter’s triptych becomes an exploration, a safari populated by living and imaginary creatures, with a welcome of an Eden no longer lost to guilt, but dancing in the intoxication of an experience that unites individual and collective dimensions.
In the artists’ words, “SDOD seeks to take the body in hand and hurl it towards the world collapsing in ruins. Powerless and desensitised amidst catastrophe, we turn to the body as the only opportunity for power. The power to act or not act. The power to dance as if it were a rain dance, arching the pelvis once more towards pleasure and desire as the only saving grace in a desert. Rain in an African refugee camp. A ritual, a spell, like searching what is always sought but never found.
SDOD is a hymn outside of time, a pursuit and an encounter with the bodies of others. It is not a retreat, but a thrust towards the essence of the human, trying not to confuse it with efficiency, the production of a functional sense, past revolutions”.
The choreographic score becomes a way to reiterate that every body must be granted access to the desire to share, that each person is simultaneously the other, and that every creature, in its uniqueness, has the right to exist according to its own nature, cultivating respect, relationship, care, the beauty of every form generated by the contact of living forms.
