If I try to remember, I just cannot find the day or the moment when I went from being a child to a man, or, even before I was a man, I became, in the eyes of those who took care of me, ‘male’, that is to say, a being promised to masculinity. That day, all of a sudden, the game was lost in victory, dancing became suspect, dressing in coloured rags was inappropriate.
What is masculinity? Who does it belong to? Does it belong to me, or do I belong to it? How much has it given me and how much has it taken away? Can it be more mine? And how?

As part of the theatrical project To Repel Ghosts/Lettera al padre, Gennaro Lauro presents a new workshop aimed at male citizens or those who identify as such, aged between 15 and 65. The meetings will focus on movement practices inspired by the ongoing research: forms of walking, the relationship with space, the sense of domination and the unknown, play and strength. The experience that each person has or has had of the masculine will be central, without judgement or ready-made opinions.
Gennaro Lauro studied Philosophy and Eastern Languages, then approached dance and works with, among others, Romeo Castellucci, Cindy Van Acker, Giorgio Rossi, Cie Meta, Cie Inkörper, Circo El Grito and Oona Doherty. Since 2018 he has created: "Sarajevo – la strage dell’uomo tranquillo", "Mondo" and "ZugZwang", in collaboration with his sister Elisabetta. He is currently carrying out a new choreographic creation: To Repel Ghosts/Letter to the Father, a research on masculinity.
