Like lots of little Native American Indians, the children sit in a circle made of clay mud, a freshly made world of water and earth. The old warrior begins his great story. Originally there was just water, at the beat of the drum the Great Sky Chief who lived among the stars and planets, above the rainbow, sent the Sky Maiden down, falling in the water with huge tree that carried the magical land of the sky in its roots which had the power to grow and grow. All the animals swam to the bottom of the water to get earth and when they had brought it to the surface, they placed it on the back of a giant turtle, and there it became dry land… a tall pile of mud, and then cold arrived and the earth became mountain and this mud hardened like rock. Rain fell, becoming then snow and ice on top of the mountain. The seeds flew around, became roots and trees in the earth. Why darkness was still there? Great Turtle called all the animals, positioned himself inside the circle and said: “We have to make a big light…”
