The Orchestra Operaia is the result of breaking a taboo: that of style at all costs, belonging to a genre. The Orchestra was born as a musical “mechanism”, a creative motor that allows the creation of every kind of musical style. Technically, it is a small big band, created on the model of Duke Ellington’s Washingtonians or the orchestras of Fletcher Henderson. Renouncing stylistic arrangement is a risky, but very interesting step to take because, disregarding a genre of reference, and moreover, changing it over and over, you enter a no man’s land which allows you to experience all the possible identities that an orchestral group of this type, generally tied to jazz, can. Maman o il Pene Eretto was conceived by Massimo Nunzi and revolves around compositional elements inspired by the intense and contradictory, yet also very ironic, figure of Louise Bourgeois. And like the dense and articulate dramas of the tapestries that he has woven since he was young, Nunzi and the Operaia, with the help of six composers and thirteen soloists, will create a compact journey into the sophisticated archaism of evocative objects, imagined by the artist.
