Princesa e Caffariello: betrayals and revelations in the voices of a present-day transgender and a castrato soprano of the 18th century. The voice of Princesa “betrays” the achievement of her objective: the transformation of her own body. The voice of Caffariello “reveals” all the inherent characteristics of a female voice in a male body. The cue is given by a song by Fabrizio De Andrè and Ivano Fossati: Princesa, in turn, comes from the homonymous biography of Fernanda Farias and Maurizio Jannelli. The Princesa voice is intertwined with that of Gaetano Majorano known as Caffariello. In the construction of the ballad, the original melody is the germ from which flow intense and lyrical moments alternating with elements of uncertainty or randomness. The original melody appears only after the choir’s speech, the archetype from which begins the compositional process that treats voices and instruments as authentic characters in a theatrical piece. The pop voice and the soprano are grafted together through quotations from the virtuoso repertoire of the 18th century. The Choir has the function of a kind of “historian" articulating the dramatic development of the text and creating little harmonic intermezzos between one section and the other.
