Biennale Musica 2022, Silver Lion for Ars Ludi
The Silver Lion of the Biennale Musica 2022 has been awarded to the Ensemble Ars Ludi, made up of three exceptional percussionists - Antonio Caggiano, Rodolfo Rossi and Gianluca Ruggeri, “for virtuosity and the ability to transform the percussive world into a compelling Machina Mundi”.
The whole of Scompiglio is filled with joy at this recognition of the Ensemble, which has long shared a relationship of collaboration and exchange, through experimentation of the many musical and performative possibilities offered by the repertoire for percussion. All the collaborators of the Project congratulate the Ensemble for this important recognition. A special thanks goes to Antonio Caggiano, founding member of the Ensemble, who for several years has also taken on the role of artistic director for the musical programmes at Dello Scompiglio: a very valuable collaboration that has, over time, enabled thematic reviews that have brought people closer to the world of contemporary music, putting it in dialogue with other styles and languages and thus going beyond temporal and genre classifications.
As stated on the Biennale di Venezia website, "The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award to Giorgio Battistelli is intertwined with the Silver Lion awarded to Antonio Caggiano, Rodolfo Rossi and Gianluca Ruggeri, founders of Ars Ludi in 1987, as 'ideal interpreters of the new repertoire of instrumental theatre, charismatic and dramatic musicians who transform every percussive plot into an event full of theatricality, helping to create a new vision of contemporary music production where the most complex scores are presented with a performative aptitude that is exhilarating and communicative (from motivation)."
