Karol Radziszewski (born Bialystok 1980, lives and works in Varsavia) is an eclectic artist, who uses numerous media in his work: from photography to video, painting to drawing, film to performance, fusing personal stories and collective memories, history of art and pop references, loosely derived from the culture of Eastern Europe as well as from that of north America. His research focuses on the value and purpose of historical documentation and, here, is entirely centred on the documentary merit of archives. “Ceremony” is an action, produced by the Associazione Culturale Dello Scompiglio, that crosses multiple cultural, historical, religious, social and gender references, in which the artist irreverently short-circuits the stereotypes related to a “proto-queer” aesthetic in communist Poland and the Candomblé rituals of afro-Brazilian origins.
