2024 - Before Night Falls
With the inclusion of text and movements, this performance aims at retracing the conventional limits of stage, creating a fascinating experience, set in the vibrant roads of Cairo. Attempting to dismantle and reconstruct the concept of masculinity, the project highlights the multiple ways in which men are able to manage their identity in relation to others and themselves, aiming to foster a more complex and nuanced understanding of masculinity.
The first part of the work explores Egyptian masculinity, questioning how the male role is shaped deeply by the country’s political system, and how masculinity is evolving in response to shifting social and political discourses.
The work is an invitation to think critically about how male bodies are used and modified in their cultural and historical environment and how male strength is repressed and silenced by social forces. This also contributes to a broader reflection on gender, encouraging a reinvented sense of masculinity, free from the limits of traditional stereotypes and open to vulnerability, emotional richness and genuine expression.
